Growth and Stability of Agricultural Production in Hawaii: A Portfolio Analysis

Two previous CTAHR Economic Issues publications, EI-3 (Agriculture’s Contribution to Hawaii’s Economy—An Update) and EI-4 (The Linkages of Agri culture to Hawaii’s Economy) have examined agricul tural industries’ economic contribution and their link ages to the rest of Hawaii’s economy (see Notes, p. 11). The present publication examines the growth and sta bility of agricultural production in Hawaii over the past four decades. This examination provides information about individual agricultural industries’ growth and sta bility characteristics as well as their impacts on the growth and stability of the entire agricultural sector. We have also assessed how diversification within Hawaii’s agricultural sector has affected its stability.
